What is a whirlpool bath?

A whirlpool bath is characterised by the type of massage performed on the body through immersion in water, this is achieved using air combined with water jets.

What are the benefits of the whirlpool bath?

The whirlpool bath is beneficial to blood circulation and the lymphatic system, it reduces swelling and the related heavy leg feeling. It is also useful to prevent cellulite as the pressure from the jets helps to drain fluid. The action of the water jets also benefits the skin, by invigorating, smoothing and relaxing. Finally, if the treatment is used with hot water, it can also relieve muscle tension.

In addition, the relaxing hydromassage provides significant psychological benefits. The pressure of massage on the body actually stimulates the release of endorphins, which in turn stimulates the nerve fibres for relaxation and a pleasant, calm feeling.

The secret to the perfect whirlpool bath

To maximise the benefits of this relaxing treatment it is important to follow a few simple rules:

  • The average length of a whirlpool bath treatment should be around 15-20 minutes, on a daily basis in the evening, if possible.
  • After a day of skiing or walking in the mountains, the bath reduces muscle stress and promotes sleep.
  • After a whirlpool, it is advisable to relax for at least 10 minutes while lying down wrapped in a bathrobe.
