The town of Andalo
The town of Andalo is gently laid out in a sunny position in the green valley located between Monte Paganella - Gaza and the Dolomites of Brenta, in western Trentino.
The hollow links the Val di Non and the Giudicarie; the first farmers came here in the middle ages, settling in scattered “masi” which can still be recognized today, in spite of the vigorous urban development of the area. Andalo is situated at an average altitude of 1,000 to 1,100 metres above sea level.
The climate in the summer is temperate and cool, typical of the Dolomite regions, while the temperatures fall considerably during the winter, permitting many snow sports.
There is a fine karst lake to the north, normally 1,000 metres long and 200 wide but with pronounced seasonal variations: its waters are abundant in periods of heavy rainfall and take swift refuge from the observer as they filter into the unexplored subterranean caves.
The lake is fed by underground springs; at a short distance is a notable sports centre, from which begin equipped trails and walks.
The territory of Andalo marches to the south and west with that of Molveno, the Alpine lake of which, “a precious pearl in a precious setting” (A. Fogazzaro), is one of the most famous attractions for nature-seekers in the Dolomites.
